Review: I adore Greer's Conviction series but she knocked this one out of the park. As a Louisiana resident, I absolutely loved the accuracy and vibes portrayed through written word and the playlist. I enjoyed how this Phantom of the Opera retelling is modern, southern, and mafia. It's not a retelling that follows the exact plot of the original, instead opting for a modern day mafia war that the main male character adopted the persona of the Phantom. It's similar but at the same time, an original piece.

This Phantom is obsessed with his muse, Scarlett Day, who is a student at the music school created by his family. The enforcer has a tragic backstory, which he adapted to become the Phantom of the French Quarter and Scarlett's Demon of Music. I loved the French and French cajun added for authenticity and the realism of the jazz scene.

Make sure you check trigger warnings, because there's a lot of spice, unaliving, trauma, and mental illness, specifically bipolar disorder. Greer is a great writer because she captures emotion in her words, grief, fear, love, passion and so much more. There's a HEA, no cliffhanger, and a satisfactory amount of spice and retribution.
