Review: Born of Flame & Fury starts in the middle of the story of a woman who shows up in flames, with no memory of who she is or even a name. While this is an amnesia case, thankfully we don't have the jumping around the timeline perspective to wade through to figure out what's happening.

Once we find out that Elea wakes up in the forest, we have a 10 year jump. We have no clue how old she is but she has incredibly strong powers that are wild, and unheard of. She's considered a Solar Fae, and has been living in isolation with Fabian, the Lunar Fae male that found her in the forest. There seems to be a brief attraction and innuendo of romance between them but we don't really know how developed the relationship is because there's some major shock factor in the first few chapters.

*Spoiler*

Elea gets into some trouble where she meets the white haired fae twins, Callista and Atlas, who get her to safety. When the come back, Fabian is captured and murdered in broad daylight by the tyrannical king. They get back to a hidden city called Safe Haven and Elea sinks into a depression.

Atlas, the ever joking male, works to get Elea on her feet, training, and learning how to control her power. Callista, the brooding and distant female, wants nothing to do with Elea, with the understanding that she's avoiding her because she's dangerously out of control. Personally, I would have loved for there to be more dynamic between Elea, Atlas and Callista. It seemed like they weren't around half the time and most of the interaction was Atlas trying to talk Elea into training and Callista watching her from a distance.

There were a few moments of attraction between Elea and Atlas and Elea and Callista, that usually ended with Elea feeling hurt or rejected. Or physically hurt from a kelpie. That part added a nice shock factor. While Elea is on her journey to find her memories, get revenge for Fabian and stop the tyrannical king, there are quite a few surprising scenes that kinda left me questioning things. I'm still scratching my head on where the big shadow snake thing came from.

We finally find out that Elea and Callista are mates. Things get a little spicy after Callista saves Elea with her own powers, which was frustrating since Callista knew the whole time and pretended to not have a connection, allowed other women to be all touchy-feely. Not cool Callista. There were LGBTQ+ elements throughout the story, mostly history for Callista and Elea's new attraction. But there's an extra chapter and the end that left me wondering about Atlas and how he plays into this. Overall, there were things I was frustrated by that I'm hoping get cleared up in the next book. Plus, the tyrannical king is still alive so we aren't done yet!
